What is the role of government, as you see it?
The role of government is to ensure the welfare of the people. As a county commissioner it would be my duty to not only set policy but to make sure said policies are implemented correctly and efficiently.
In what ways (if any) should the current county budget be re-aligned?
We should always look for ways to save money but more importantly; we should find ways to use what money we do have more effectively. One example would be: Lower the number of commissioners.
What are your top three goals for Hickman County, and how, specifically, would you work toward them as a commissioner?
#1 Improve Infrastructure. #2 Pass a reasonable clean up resolution and make sure it’s enforced properly. #3 Propose innovative ideas for more recreational facilities for younger generations. These ideas can only come to fruition with the support of the commission and the people. It takes community support, hard work and dedication. One step at a time. The only way to make something happen is to stay on task and gain the support of the elected officials sitting next to you. It’s a team effort and can’t be done alone.
What is your opinion on changing the composition or compensation (particularly health insurance benefit) of the county commission?
Health Insurance Benefits is very common in most counties in the state for county commissioners. I believe these officials need to be compensated so I’m fine with the insurance benefits. I would be okay with the amount of coverage being lowered as long as the $200/month compensation was increased.
By default, how will you advocate resolving budget shortfalls?
Budget shortfalls would have to be discussed on a case by case basis.
